Participants completing this course will be able to:
- List 2 muscles groups and describe 3 functions of the pelvic floor
- Understand the development of the diaphragm and the pelvic floor as it related to bowel and bladder function in pediatrics
- Describe normal bowel and bladder health in the pediatric population
- Understand the relationship of constipation and effect on the bladder and pressure systems in the abdomen
- Understand how bowel function can change the ability of the core to properly activate and cause other motor control disturbances with developmental milestones
- Evaluate the effects of posture and positioning on the pelvic floor and transverse abdominus muscle recruitment and relaxation.
- Perform verbal instruction of pelvic floor and transverse abdominus activation
- Perform 3 different diaphragmatic breathing techniques for pediatric patients including diastasis rectus abdominis assessment with examples of core activation.
- Analyze the rib cage as it relates to proper core activation and function of the diaphragm
- Assess when to make a proper referral to a trained pediatric pelvic therapist
